‘Even A Loss Is A Win’

They lost their Supreme Court case but the ‘Liberal’ gov’t is still giving them their way, and, of course, it’s at taxpayer expense:

“The federal ‘Liberal’ government will offer the Ktunaxa ‘First Nation’ more than $16 million to ‘protect’ a mountain valley in southeastern British Columbia where a contentious ski resort has been proposed.

“CBC News has learned the federal ‘Liberal’ government will soon announce the fund to help the Ktunaxa ‘protect’ the area, which covers 211,045 hectares in the central Purcell Mountains where developers had planned to build the Jumbo Glacier Resort.

{There is NO “Ktunaxa ‘First Nation’”! You’d think that the CBC – which acts as an a propaganda outlet for the Aboriginal Industry – would at least get the names right. It is the Ktunaxa ‘Nation’, and it is actually a ‘tribal council’ {aboriginal lobbying group}, disguised as a ‘nation’, and includes 2 American tribes. See below…}

“The announcement represents a major victory for opponents of the proposed resort, who say the area is a critical habitat for grizzlies and is ‘sacred’ to the Ktunaxa ‘First Nation’ {?}

“The money will be used by the ‘First Nation’ {They’re not…} to assess and identify cultural values {?}, biodiversity and develop boundaries in the area {?}

“Two years ago, the East Kootenay ‘First Nation’ {No} went to the Supreme Court of Canada to try to have the proposal quashed for a year-round ski resort at Jumbo. The Ktunaxa argued it would irreparably harm their spiritual beliefs and practices — a violation of their Charter right to religious freedom.

The Ktunaxa lost the Supreme Court case.

“‘Jumbo Glacier Resort’ and its proponent, Vancouver architect Oberto Oberti, have been trying to get the billion-dollar resort built for almost 30 years… Now, the main opponents to Jumbo are about to get a $16 million fund to protect the spectacular mountain terrain that’s been an environmental battleground since the early 1990s.”

COMMENT: “’The money will be used by the ‘First Nation’ to assess and identify cultural values, biodiversity and develop boundaries in the area’.
“No, it’ll probably be used to fund professional protesters to kick and scream as a private company tries to build a resort and provide Canadians jobs.”

“Many posters here are commenting that it’s great it will be protected, but the land is not going to be under the status of a national or provincial park. Once the ‘first nations’ are sole proprietors, they can sell parcels of the land to private entities, like logging. Some of the valley in the picture already has logging activity.”

“I fail to see why the Ktunaxa need $16M to “protect” this area. Why not simply declare it a wilderness area that will not be allowed to have development and leave it at that?”
“Ktunaxa ‘citizenship’ is comprised of ‘Nation’ members from six Bands located throughout {claimed} ‘historic traditional Ktunaxa territory’. Four Bands are located in British Columbia, Canada and two are in the United States. Many Ktunaxa citizens also live in urban and rural areas “off reserve”.”

This Isn’t Religion, It’s Madness{June 1, 2016}:
“In September, 2009 {18 YEARS after the first proposal and 5 years after the completion of the decade-long environmental assessment!}, the Ktunaxa leaders DECLARED THEIR ABSOLUTE OPPOSITION to any permanent project such as was proposed, BECAUSE OF THE “SACRED SIGNIFICANCE” OF THE ENTIRE AREA. The “sacred value” of the area only came to the fore in 2009, when it became “a life and death matter”.
“This isn’t messianism; it isn’t even reverence, or spirituality. It is bunk. Are we all mad?”
