Self-styled ‘water and land protectors’, now calling themselves the ‘Great Plains Resistance’, have once again interfered with pipeline construction outside Morden, Manitoba. And once again, the RCMP showed up and ‘talked to them’. No clearing them off the site, much less any arrests for one of several possible charges. Nope, they simply ‘talked to them’ while workers were forced to abandon the site. We shouldn’t have to remind police that the public expects them to enforce the law, not act as social workers. Companies and workers should not be denied law enforcement simply because the perpetrators are aboriginal, or because police don’t consider the infractions serious enough. Let a court make that judgement…

“We kinda stormed our way into here {Trespass, in this case with criminal intent}… They fenced it off since last time…but we’re, like, ‘screw that’ and we busted into the yard {Break and enter}. Ha, ha, ha… All the Enbridge employees…backed out of here and left. Some guy even came back…Ha, ha, yeah – He got ran off, too {Another offence}… They pretty much just booked right out of here when they seen…‘indigenous’ ‘land and water protectors’ come in. They seen us before, they know who we are, so it didn’t take much for us to get rid of them today {Repeat offenders}… All the country folk wanna know what’s happening, why the police are here? Why are a bunch of ‘indigenous’ people with masks {There’s another criminal violation} and flags and bandannas…I don’t know. They got nothing happening with their lives, I guess. But WE DO!… These colonizers – they think they can do whatever they want… These cops…they’re treatin’ me like a bad guy, ha, ha, ha {They’re watching him}. I’m a ‘warrior’, man, I’m not afraid. .. I’m not afraid to do whatever I need to do… This is the third, fourth…third time we’ve done this. Different locations… It’s not like…it’s gonna end. It’s definitely gonna continue… These people are insane here, man… See, the thing is, you know, when we do this shutdown, eh, we have to come here and we have to remain on site. There’s no point coming here and standing here for a little bit, thinking we’ve won and shut ‘em down because we’ve done that and they just return… Great Plains Resistance is fighting on, man. This is nothing yet, though — this is NOTHING! You know, this thing’s gotta get bigger. The resistance will get bigger but this is how it’s gonna start. With a few brave, brave ‘warriors’, man… We’ll decide how long we’re gonna shut this down for, maybe kick that generator down that hole. No, just kiddin’. Ha, ha, ha. Peace! Anyway, I’m outta here…”
