‘Promoting A Lie’

“It’s time for the politically-incorrect truth to be told. In short, THE SIX NATIONS HAVE NO LEGAL RIGHTS TO THE LAND IN QUESTION, AND HAVE HAD NONE FOR OVER A CENTURY.”

Here is a fellow, trying to ‘do the right thing’, who would have been better served by staying at home and catching up on his reading – particularly the history of this region. Instead, he is foolishly spending his time promoting a lie:

“Ken Wilson grew up on what some {aboriginals} believe is stolen property {Long before the British let the Mohawks come and live on the ‘Haldimand Tract’, their Mohawk ancestors had stolen this land from another tribe (see below) and in turn, had it stolen from them. Then, the British bought it — the first people to actually NOT steal the land…}.

“Everyone who lives near the Grand River or on the Haldimand Tract, a 300-kilometer stretch of land from Dundalk to Port Maitland including Kitchener, Cambridge, Brant, Brantford and Haldimand, lives on the ‘Haldimand Tract’, a land that is under dispute as {spurious} land claims from the ‘Six Nations’.

“When most people think about this history they think it’s in the past, but it’s not. It’s still going on,” he said.

“Wilson didn’t understand the reasons or truth behind that, as many of us don’t, but he wants to and he wants to further reconciliation between the Haudenosaunee and surrounding municipalities {Then he should start with the TRUTH. Six Nations have to drop this phony land claim…}.

“The former Brantford resident, who now resides in Regina, embarked on a two-week journey to walk the expanse of the Haldimand Tract while being as respectful of nature, the people and ‘the creator’, while also trying to understand the history, emotion and shame that has come between the ‘two nations’ {There is a Canadian Nation and a Mohawk community}.

“Early in the walk I would sometimes be unaccountable hit with waves of shame about the history,”{?} he said.

“Wilson embarked on the journey as a project for his Masters of fine art in theatre {???}; he says it’s a walking performance calling attention to an unjust history, while raising money for the ‘Woodland Cultural Centre’s ‘Save the Evidence Campaign’…

“Before he began the journey, he spoke to employees at Woodland Cultural Centre and consulted a Haudenosaunee faithkeeper to make sure his performance piece wasn’t a disrespectful act or disservice to ‘First Nations’ or the land {Sigh…}.

“He was told to ensure that he give thanks to the Creator morning and night by burning tobacco, and to the land and river by putting a pinch of tobacco in the river every time he crossed it…

“It has sometimes been difficult to keep those commitments, but I have done it because it’s important for me that this is as authentic and respectful as possible,” he said.

“He toured the ‘Mohawk Institute’, or the ‘Mush Hole’ as it’s ‘survivors’ call it, on his way through Brantford and found the tour very emotional and extremely worthwhile.

“I spoke (to a woman on Six Nations) whose grandmother was a ‘survivor’ of the residential school and she said her grandmother was so shamed to be ‘indigenous’ — that’s what the school taught her, to be ashamed of herself. That’s not right, I get very emotional about that sometimes,” Wilson said.

“In 1784, Sir Fredrick Haldimand, governor general at the time, signed the ‘Haldimand Proclamation’ giving those loyal to the crown, including the Mohawk and others within the Six Nations, the land {NO, he allowed them use of the land, at the discretion of the Crown…} stretching six miles on either side of the river from its beginning to where it funnels into Lake Erie, because they had lost their land in present day New York during the American Revolution.”

http://www.brantnews.com/news-story/6740618-walking-the-haudenosaunee-s-land/ ERBLTheMythsOfCaledonia600x600“It’s time for the politically-incorrect truth to be told. In short, THE SIX NATIONS HAVE NO LEGAL RIGHTS TO THE LAND IN QUESTION, AND HAVE HAD NONE FOR OVER A CENTURY.

“They have never had any rights to land in Ontario by virtue of aboriginal title or by treaty. For a tract of land along the Grand River, they obtained in 1784 merely AN OCCUPANCY PERMIT from British colonial Governor Frederick Haldimand, THAT ENDURED ONLY AT THE PLEASURE OF THE CROWN…

“…IT WAS AN OCCUPANCY PERMIT AT THE PLEASURE OF THE CROWN. IT COULD BE WITHDRAWN AT ANY TIME, WITHOUT COMPENSATION TO THE INDIANS.

“After 1784, the Six Nations surrendered to the Crown various portions of the Grand River tract and by the middle of the 19th century, all that remained was the land contained in the current Six Nations reserve, south of Brantford. That is a summary of their legal rights.

“As for moral obligations, a review of the history of the Six Nations Indians indicates that THEY ARE NOT INNOCENT VICTIMS OF LAND ROBBERY BY EUROPEAN COLONIZERS, BUT ARE INSTEAD THEMSELVES THE CULPRITS WHO TERRORIZED, CONQUERED, AND DISPLACED MANY OTHER INDIAN TRIBES, WHOSE LAND AND RESOURCES THEY SOUGHT TO CONTROL…’’
