“As well, the strategy also detailed the introduction of two new conservation parks, the Wiinipaawk ‘Indigenous’ Protected Area and Marine Conservation Area in the Eastern James Bay, off the northern coast of Quebec, and Seal River Watershed National Park in northern Manitoba.
“The Seal River area is home to four ‘First Nations’ {Indian Bands} in Manitoba — Barren Lands ‘First Nation’, O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree ‘Nation’, Northlands Dene ‘Nation’, and Sayisi Dene ‘First Nation’ — which make up the ‘Seal River Alliance’. Assembled in 2019, the group aims to help protect the land through conservation efforts, as well as the history and languages of those who occupy it {As long as they receive taxpayer funding…}.
