‘For A Few Dollars More…’

But the government is short of funds for essentials…

“To make “Canada’s Food Guide” more accessible to ‘indigenous’ {they mean ‘aboriginal’} peoples, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Health, today announced the translation of Canada’s new ‘Food Guide Snapshot’ (the new image of the Guide) into nine ‘indigenous’ {‘aboriginal’} languages: Dene, Inuinnaqtun, Inuktitut (Baffin), Inuktitut (Nunatsiavut), Inuktitut (Nunavik), Michif, Ojibwe, Oji-Cree and Plains Cree.

“The Government of Canada recognizes that food has significant nutritional, social, cultural and spiritual value for ‘indigenous’ {‘aboriginal’} peoples in Canada. The Government of Canada also recognizes the importance of preserving, revitalizing and promoting ‘indigenous’ {‘aboriginal’} languages.

“The languages reflect those most commonly spoken by ‘indigenous’ {‘aboriginal’} peoples across Canada, the official languages of the Government of Nunavut, as well as recommendations from National Representatives of ‘indigenous’ {‘aboriginal’} peoples and ‘nations…

“As part of {one-way} ‘reconciliation’, the Government of Canada acknowledges that program and policy-making must support self-determination {?}, as well as recognize the distinct nature and lived experience of ‘First Nations’ {aboriginal communities}, Inuit and the Metis ‘Nation’ {There is no ‘Metis nation’, only lobbying organizations}. Health Canada and ‘Indigenous’ {Aboriginal} Services Canada are committed to working with ‘First Nations’ {aboriginal communities}, Inuit and the Metis ‘nation’ to support the development of healthy eating tools that meet their distinct {?} needs…”

In 2019, the United Nations Year of ‘Indigenous’ Languages, I am pleased to support the launch of ‘Canada’s Food Guide Snapshot’ in nine ‘indigenous’ {‘aboriginal’} languages. This will contribute to the availability of healthy eating tools for ‘indigenous’ {‘aboriginal’} peoples recognizing the importance of language and culture to overall health.”
–The ‘Honourable’ Seamus O’Regan
Minister of ‘Indigenous’ {Aboriginal} Services

Language and culture are at the heart of the Metis ‘nation’. Along with the ‘indigenous’ {‘aboriginal’} language legislation, having ‘Canada’s Food Guide’ now available in Michif is another welcome step forward in recognizing our unique Michif language and culture in Canada, and in its revitalization.”
–Clement Chartier
President, Metis National Council

“In addition to Canada’s two official languages, Canada’s Food Guide Snapshot is now available in 26 other languages (9 Indigenous and 17 multicultural)… Arabic, Farsi, German, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Simplified Chinese (Mandarin), Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil, Traditional Chinese, Urdu and Vietnamese…”

Unofficial Languages’ (‘Indigenous’ Languages Act) {Feb.20, 2019}:
“UNESCO (U.N.) has declared this the ‘International Year of ‘Indigenous’ Languages’. In Canada, we have only 2 ‘official’ languages and current legislation seems like a backdoor attempt by the federal government to elevate aboriginal languages to a similar status; otherwise, there isn’t justification for spending so much on unofficial languages.”

Rebuilding The Tower of Babel’ (Indigenous Languages):
“The greatest barrier between people is language and the Government of Canada isn’t doing anyone any favours – particularly aboriginals – by erecting more barriers, none of which will help aboriginal youth find success in the modern world… The attempts to preserve aboriginal languages only serves the interests of the linguists of the ‘Aboriginal Industry’; they are a disservice to native people.”
