‘Throwing Their Weight Around’

“Chief Judy Wilson of the Neskonlith Band {660 people}, a member of the Secwepemc ‘Nation’ in BC’s interior, addressed shareholders — telling them Kinder Morgan’s current ‘Trans Mountain’ pipeline runs through over 500 kms of ‘their {claimed} territory’, and the ‘nation’ is fighting the project in court citing a “crucial lack of consultation“.

{Chiefs keep telling everyone that Canadian law gives them a veto, despite being told by both the Supreme Court of Canada and the Prime Minister that this is NOT the case. In Canadian culture, that is called ‘lying’…}
adding her ‘nation’ does not believe the risks of the project have been accurately evaluated or fully disclosed.

“And she promised if the Canadian government tries to minimize political or financial risks, the ‘nations’ will not stop fighting because the project threatens their culture, spirituality and identity.
{Such melodramatic nonsense…}

“…Backed by 3 of the world’s largest investors, with a combined $450 million in Kinder Morgan shares, the resolution passed. Wilson says it demonstrates an unprecedented shift in stockholder sentiment.

{Actually, it demonstrates that a lat of shares have changed hands. The 3 investors were CalPERS (California state gov’t workers pension fund – the largest in the U.S.), the New York State Common Retirement Fund (again, a gov’t workers pension fund), and the Norway Sovereign Wealth Fund, representing a nation that competes with Canada for world oil exports. Once again, Canadian aboriginal leaders are siding with foreigners against Canadian interests…and being used by these same foreign interests. It brings to mind recent reports of chiefs taking foreign money to oppose Canadian pipelines…}

What about the aboriginal Bands that signed deals and stand to benefit from the pipeline? Why is it only the radicals that get given what they want? We can only hope that the KM Board has the sense to reject this…

“Chief Judy Wilson with the Neskonlith Indian Band {a ‘nation’ of 660 people} and Rueben George representing the Tsleil-Waututh ‘Nation’ {a ‘nation’ of 597 people} Sacred Trust Initiative say they intend to warn investors about the risk of proceeding with Kinder Morgan’s ‘Trans Mountain’ pipeline expansion without consent from ‘First Nations’ {‘Siberian settler communities’}…

“The Comptroller of New York State, an investor in Kinder Morgan, provided the proxy that allows the two leaders to present a resolution…

“Wilson, who is also secretary-treasurer of the ‘Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs’, says Kinder Morgan stockholders have not been properly advised about ‘indigenous’ rights in Canada…

“Investors need to prepare for the risk of months of unwavering and strong opposition”,
Wilson says in the news release…

“George says the Tsleil-Waututh conducted a review based in ‘unextinguished’ ‘indigenous’ law {a direct challenge to the sovereignty of B.C. and Canada that must be dealt with} and denied the project free, prior and informed consent…
{The pipeline doesn’t cross their ancestors’ former lands…}

“Kinder Morgan does not have the required consent of ‘indigenous’ ‘nations’ {mostly extended families} along the pipeline and tanker route, and it never will”,

she says, adding there is nothing the Canadian government can do…

“We will continue fighting against this project until it is abandoned”,
says Wilson…”
