“How much is the average salary for a band manager on a first nation community? We have a FNEA council members who hired 2 individuals without posting the positions.. 1 job opening was a band manager and assistant band manager. They are being paid at $150,000. And the other one $120,000. Per year. With no credentials to back up that kind of salaries. Mind you, those are the councilor’s friend ‘n’ family members.”

“A lot of bands hire HR, social, finance, housing directors who have no formal education because they are related to someone pulling the strings.
“Nothing you can really do other than having yourself and others record their behavior and report them. Make sure to look at financial statements and all items that membership can access. Ask about their write offs/bad debts, depreciation, requests for funds from Jordan’s principle or other government related grants, while asking for how program funds are dispensed. Other things to ask about involve how they deal with risk and ways they organize alternative scenarios or share those scenarios with membership as part of their ethical goals to membership that involve transparency, accountability, honesty, respect and trustworthiness.
“Make sure their roles do not solely benefit themselves but the role is a means to help the people. Similar to doctors, accountants, lawyers and anyone with fiduciary duties, their self-interests come second to the people they serve. If they find ways to circumvent ways to funnel money to themselves and others through failed programs, or directly a case can be brought against them.
“Make sure someone is ensuring they are not using the work vehicles for personal use even to just drop something off at their home or meet someone for personal reasons.
“Anyway, The list can go on and on. The people should lobby to ensure elected officials create cost control rules for each area of the reservations’ organizations or each director must provide membership with documents on their spending and reasons for specific programs or required programs for the band. (Another reason surveys should go out and data analytics tools are utilized).”

“Cote First ‘Nation’ changed the dates of election, didn’t include certain cities, and put a 3 person tribunal in place to override the membership’s. Have no idea where these people are from, or how much they get paid. We never get any kind of notice. They’re planning on building a hospital next. Taking loans out. The Canadian government can’t even fix the issues within the medical sector, but somehow these uneducated C&C are going to be able to handle a hospital, they can’t even handle their portfolios. It’s always the same families in power, and they steal, and act like they’re above the law. No on challenges them. They’ve been getting away with it for generations. Their children are now taking over, but all the usual people, which have been found to have stolen from us, are still working there, at some capacity. It’s disgusting! People are dropping like flies from addiction, we have a population of homeless, on our one rez …HTF does that happen, we’re supposed to be millionaires. Can’t find anyone to help. With our new settlements coming, whose gonna stop them from ripping us off. The one’s who say something get bullied, staff on reserve have to sign NDA, they even cut power off to some houses, don’t get their SA, or get ignored when they need something…to be honest, they ignore everyone who isn’t part of their circle. Only family and friends get help.”

“Garden River FN’s chief announced she was posting a position for the RHT coordinator. No posting occurred and she hired a white politician to be the go between for the money’s with the band members. Promises were made for payments from the RHT court settlement, which never transpired. She even ran for election with her slogan being she would give 100% payout. Constant delays with promised dates and then chaos created to mask the wrongdoing as she announces she was giving approx 50% of what was supposed to be paid. There’s no leadership, just dictatorship.
“The RHT coordinator’s position ended a couple of days ago and while we’ve been waiting on our money, he’s on Instagram posting pics of a plane and other toys.
“Forgot to mention, the people of Garden River still haven’t been paid yet.
“We need to start to expose the corruption because this behavior makes us appear like we can’t self govern and it’s the greedy and corrupt that are abusing their positions.
“It’s time they start to get the due attention they deserve as corrupt leadership.”

“Nepotism at its best. I knew this would happen. That’s why the Government amended the original Huron treaty. The chiefs were giving money to whom they wanted and kept money for himself. This was the people’s money. Not his to control.
“Our chiefs totally disregarded the amended part of the Huron treaty. So here is history 150 years later repeating itself. Where was the transparency? They never did answer that.

“For those of you fighting the corruption and fraud within your leadership, please remember that it does take a toll on you mentally, emotionally and various others forms of negative effects like loss of sleep or focus from your work. Sometimes these are battles you will never win. Not everyone cares as much as you do, sometimes you have to rely on Karma to do all the fighting for you. Know your battles, but don’t let it take you away from meaningful time with your family. Also remember, these leaders have to sleep at night also knowing they have to face their reality in the morning. Hiy Hiy.”
