‘Overdoing It Again’

It’s one thing to introduce some aboriginal literature into the school curriculum, but let’s not get silly…

I always say that Shakespeare is why I teach, so losing that part of the course was surprising for me.”

“Most high school students remember being assigned a dog-eared version of “1984”, “Othello” or “Catcher in the Rye”, but today’s Grade 11 students with the Greater Essex County District School Board {southwestern Ontario} (GECDSB) won’t share the same nostalgia. By 2020, all of the literature used in the board’s mandatory Grade 11 English courses will be written by ‘Indigenous’ {They are NOT ‘Indigenous’, they’re ‘aboriginal’} authors…

“As a response to the {Partial} ‘Truth’ and ‘Reconciliation’ commission, the public school board’s trustees passed a motion in 2016 to develop an ‘Indigenous’ {sic} education protocol in response to ‘Calls for Action’. Since this decision, eight of 15 high schools have replaced Grade 11 English course materials with ‘Indigenous’ {sic} books, including “Indian Horse”, “In this Together” and “Seven Fallen Feathers”.

“The new course is called Understanding Contemporary First Nations’ {‘Indian’}, Métis {mixed Race} and Inuit Voices”…

It’s vitally important that Canadian school children learn these stories, and get a chance to hear these stories“,

said {AMERICAN! See below} Sandra Muse Isaacs, who is Eastern Cherokee and works as an associate professor of ‘Indigenous’ {sic} Literature at the University of Windsor…

I always say that Shakespeare is why I teach, so for me losing that part of the course was surprising for me“,

said Carolyn Howlett who teaches Grade 11 English at Sandwich Secondary School in LaSalle…

“There was a lot of pushback from parents {which has been ignored} who were worried their children wouldn’t be ready for Grade 12…”

“Assistant Professor of English Language and Literature {‘Indigenous’ {sic} Literature} Sandra Muse Isaacs is of Eastern Cherokee descent (Ani-tsisqua, Bird Clan) and Gaelic heritage (Clan MacRae). An alumnus of the University of Windsor (BA, English; MA, English and Creative Writing), Dr. Muse Isaacs grew up on the west side of Detroit. She remains deeply connected to the region and is honoured to once again live and work in the {claimed, often-stolen, and surrendered-by-Treaty} ‘traditional territories’ of the Anishinaabe Peoples of the Three Fires Confederacy.

“Dr. Muse Isaacs…was the first recipient and a four-time awardee of the Harvey Longboat Graduate Scholarship for ‘First Nations’ {‘Indians’}, Inuit, and Métis {mixed Race} students.

“Dr. Muse Isaacs previously taught ‘Indigenous’ {sic, ‘Aboriginal’} Literature at Saint Mary’s University in ‘Mi’kmaq’i’ {Her disrespectful way of referring to Nova Scotia} (‘homelands’ of the Mi’kmaq people {stolen from other aboriginals}), McMaster, and Laurier-Brant (both {stolen by Iroquois, former} Haudenosaunee territory).
{What is either her ignorance, or deliberate fudging, of aboriginal history is disturbing, but typical of those who work in the Aboriginal Industry…}

“She has also taught Native journalism courses at Western University (Anishinaabe, Leni-Lunaape, and Haudenosaunee lands {Again, stolen from one another many times, and long ago surrendered by Treaty}).

“Muse Isaacs’s research encompasses ‘Indigenous’ Literature and ‘critical {Leftist} theory’, ‘Indigenous’ oral storytelling, ‘Orality theory’, Oral Histories, Creative Writing {That’s for sure}, and ‘Post-Colonialism’. Her work examines the parallels between ‘Indigenous’ oral traditions and their ‘Earth-connected’ teachings…

{We are constantly lectured by aboriginal supremacists about how ‘white man’ needs to understand our relationship with ‘Mother Earth’, the way that aboriginals ‘inherently’ do. It will therefore come as a surprise to many that ‘Mother Earth’ as a concept in Canadian culture is European in origin and has virtually no history or connection with aboriginal culture or belief – and that’s according to aboriginal elders and ‘scholars’.

“Dr. Muse Isaacs’s first book…documents and examines Eastern Cherokee Oral Tradition as both an ancient and contemporary literary form, with emphasis on cultural ‘survivance’ {?}, ‘nationhood’ {‘tribalism’}, ‘Indigenous’ resistance, and ‘tribal sovereignty’ {An American concept she’s projecting on Canada}, along with its modern usage in ‘land reclamation’ {‘reclaiming’ land their ancestors previously stole}, cultural regeneration, and language revitalization.”
