Irresponsible Canadian governments and courts have encouraged an attitude among many Aboriginals that they are independent ‘nations’ that own the Canadian land mass and can ignore Canadian law when it suits them. The result is putting officials who deal with Aboriginals – in this case, the police – in an increasingly-untenable situation…
“We as Mi’kmaq have jurisdiction over these lands. I’m tired of this government trying to push us around and tell us what we can do and we can’t do. You’re not telling us, we’re telling you.“
“Thursday morning a phalanx of RCMP officers abandoned their vehicles on the ‘First Nation’ {Indian tribe/Band, a ‘nation’ of 870 people} of Potlotek and walked out with rifles and guns in full view after the women of the community blocked police cars who had raided a cannabis store at 7 am.

{The “rifles and guns” were “in full view” because the only alternatives were to leave them behind, or run over the women who were illegally blocking their vehicles.}
“Police executed a search warrant at the {illegal} ‘Sikku Shop’ and rammed in the steel door {they didn’t have a key}, causing windows to break. They later removed the door, some windows, and signage on buildings. A ‘U-Haul’ truck was filled with product, coolers and a debit machine.
“Women – some still wearing their pyjamas – flooded the area outside the dispensary and put their cars or stood in front of the police vehicles so they couldn’t leave.
{That’s called ‘Obstruction of Justice’ and if not for the fact that they are ‘Aboriginal’, they would have been arrested.}
“There were at least seven marked RCMP cars in front of the shop and some unmarked vehicles may also been parked there.
“The village of Potlotek has less than 800 people living in it. Many were out in the street peacefully speaking with each other and at times having pleasant conversations with police. Much of it was captured on camera video.
“One young man inside the shop was arrested and taken away, while an older man was handcuffed and put in a police car. His family says he became ill and had to be taken to the hospital.

“For a while, the community members blocked cars going both ways on the highway {that’s NOT ‘peaceful’!} and then the police blocked cars from going into the community. It was eventually opened to traffic after a short time.
…
“Word of the raid and its consequences on the community spread though Mi’kmaq communities quickly and others drove to Potlotek in support.
“In Sipekne’katik (Shubenacadie), Chief Michelle Glasgow had a few words of support.
“It’s not about “weed shops” being raided. It’s about the government asserting jurisdiction over our communities and over our unceded Mi’kmaq lands”,
{No, it’s about power.}
Glasgow said.
“If we allow this to continue, then we are allowing the assimilation of Mi’kmaq into a society that was meant to destroy us.”
{You HAVE BEEN ASSIMILATED! Stop pretending otherwise. You are Canadian citizens and MUST respect Canadian law like ALL Canadian citizens. P.S. And you HAVEN’T been ‘destroyed’.}
“Some members of Sipekne’katik {a ‘nation’ of 3,099 people} rallied at ‘Exit 10’ on ‘Hwy 102’ near their community and held a protest this afternoon. causing a traffic warning to be put out by the RCMP.
“As of 3 pm, the police vehicles were still sitting abandoned near the ‘Sikku Shop’. The people of Potlotek continued to video events as they quietly waited for the police to return to get their vehicles.”
–‘Potlotek shuts down Hwy 4 in Cape Breton following cannabis raid, RCMP abandon police vehicles’,
Rosemary Godin, Cape Breton Post, Apr. 02, 2026
https://www.saltwire.com/cape-breton/potlotek-shuts-down-hwy-4-cops-abandon-vehicles

“Millbrook and Sipekne’katik ‘First Nations’ partially block one of the province’s busiest highways.”
“More than a dozen RCMP officers were trapped behind a barricade and traffic was rerouted on a major Cape Breton highway Thursday morning as community members protested a police raid on a Mi’kmaw {illegal} cannabis shop.
“Employees of the ‘Sikku Shop’ on Highway 4 in Potlotek ‘First Nation’ said RCMP arrived early in the morning before the shop opened and broke down the door. They loaded a U-Haul trailer with cannabis products, shelves and drink coolers and then took off, leaving other officers and their vehicles behind.
“Eight RCMP vehicles were blocked in at the scene for about four hours as community members gathered on the road. Later in the morning, other RCMP vehicles arrived at the scene, and the officers who had remained got out of their vehicles and walked out of the blockade carrying rifles and duffel bags.
“The officers left quickly in unmarked SUVs as community members whooped and hollered.
“Potlotek Band councillor Mary Johnson said the community plans to maintain the blockade until police return the products taken from the {illegal} store.
“Johnson said community members gathered after the raid to support each other.
“We’re just having a peaceful protest and want to be heard that the RCMP can’t just come into our community and do what they want to do.”
{? They’re the police! What planet are you on??}
“Shop employee Raylene Boyce said she’s glad community members are supporting the store owner and workers.
…
“RCMP say officers were executing a search warrant at the store at 7:30 a.m., and that two people were arrested in connection with the cannabis seizure.
“An RCMP spokesperson said in a statement that people “have a protected right to lawfully, peacefully and safely assemble” {But NOT to interfere with the police!}, and that crimes against people or property will not be tolerated.
…

“Traffic was backed up on Highway 4, one of two routes between Sydney and the Canso Causeway, as a result of the {illegal} closure.
“{A handful of people from} We’koqma’q ‘First Nation’ {a ‘nation’ of 1,146 people} held a protest starting late Thursday afternoon on the other route to Sydney, Highway 105, to slow traffic.
“Meanwhile, {a few} members of Sipekne’katik ‘First Nation’ and Millbrook ‘First Nation’ are holding protests on Highway 102, the main highway linking Halifax and northern Nova Scotia. The Sipekne’katik protest, which began around noon Thursday, was announced on Facebook by Chief Michelle Glasgow.
“The post said
“it’s not about ‘weed shops’ being raided. It’s about the government asserting jurisdiction over our communities and over our ‘unceded’ Mi’kmaq lands“.
…

“By 5:30 p.m., a line of cars stretching nearly 10 kilometres could be seen in the slowed northbound lane between Brookfield, N.S., and Millbrook ‘First Nation’.
“A Facebook post said the Millbrook protest would continue until 7 p.m.
“Natalie Gloade, one of the protesters, said their peaceful {Blocking of a major thoroughfare is a criminal act and an act of aggression} gathering is a demonstration of solidarity, and an expression of discontent over the province’s ignorance concerning treaty rights.
“I think Tim Houston is in the wrong business“,
said Gloade.
“He needs a lot of training in regards to our Mi’kmaw rights, treaty rights and who we are as a people.”
{The racial arrogance is breathtaking…}
“The blockades occur as tensions escalate in some Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw communities over raids on {illegal} cannabis stores.
“RCMP have been cracking down in recent months on what the police force calls “illegal” cannabis stores {This is CBC propaganda. The provincial government ordered the crackdown on what ARE illegal stores!}, seizing products largely from stores located on ‘First Nations’ and issuing tickets.
“RCMP conducted inspections at five cannabis stores on Eskasoni ‘First Nation’, Potlotek ‘First Nation’, Paqtnkek ‘First Nation’, We’koqma’q ‘First Nation’ and Digby in early March.
“In response, Sipekne’katik set up {illegal} checkpoints at the community’s entrances and exits. Sipekne’katik has also ‘banned’ some provincial politicians — including Premier Tim Houston — from {what it claims are} Band lands.
“In December, provincial Justice Minister Scott Armstrong called on police agencies to prioritize cannabis enforcement {!!!}, and asked for the co-operation of 13 Mi’kmaq chiefs to allow police to deal with the “growing public safety problem” of illegal cannabis sales.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/illegal-cannabis-plants-mi-kmaq-chiefs-support-9.7003164
“Armstrong told reporters Thursday that the protests will not change the province’s approach to cannabis enforcement, and noted that any activity that impedes a law enforcement officer from doing their job is a violation of the law {!}.
“Anyone who is protesting, I encourage them to do it in a legal way“,
he said.
“People have the right to do that. But that doesn’t mean that the RCMP are not out there enforcing the law the way they should.”
{Then why weren’t those blockading the highway arrested???}
“Several Mi’kmaw leaders say the authority to sell cannabis at dispensaries in their communities is protected by treaty rights {? Because Aboriginals have been in the pot business since ‘time immemorial’?}.
“The question of whether Mi’kmaq have treaty rights to sell cannabis outside of federal and provincial regulations has never been fully adjudicated in Nova Scotia. In one 2024 case involving a number of dispensaries in Millbrook, a judge threw out a treaty right challenge at an early stage in the proceedings, but left open the door for a case built on a “stronger” foundation.”
{In Aboriginal law cases, the legal door is always left open for further profitable litigation…}
–‘First Nations protest on 3 N.S. highways as tensions escalate over cannabis raids’,
CBC News, Apr. 02, 2026

From March, 2026:
“Sipekne’katik set up checkpoints at community’s entrances and exits in response to raids.”
“RCMP conducted inspections at five cannabis storefronts in Nova Scotia on Tuesday, seizing products and issuing tickets. Officers carried out the activity at businesses located in Eskasoni ‘First Nation’, Potlotek ‘First Nation’, Paqtnkek ‘First Nation’, Waycobah ‘First Nation’ and Digby, police said in a news release.
“The RCMP release says officers had the authority under the “Cannabis Control Act” to do the inspections, and that their investigation continues.
“But some Mi’kmaw leaders say the authority to sell cannabis at dispensaries in their communities is protected by ‘treaty rights’.
“Millbrook ‘First Nation’ Coun. Chris Googoo said in a Facebook video on Tuesday that he was patrolling his community to keep an eye on things as the raids unfolded elsewhere.
“I’ve got to stick around here to be certain that the RCMP don’t try any of their violations on our constitutionally protected rights {?}. It’s unfortunate that these government bodies refuse to recognize and affirm our rights“,
Googoo said.
“Googoo has previously told CBC News there is a treaty right to sell cannabis through “truckhouses“, a term referenced in the 1752 Treaty signed between a Mi’kmaw chief {One?} and the British governor of Nova Scotia that dealt with a number of issues, including trade {Including cannabis?}.
“Those truckhouses are constitutionally protected on- and off-reserve, he says.
…

“Googoo said Tuesday that Mi’kmaw people must continue asserting their rights and exercising their sovereignty.
“You’re born with these inherent rights and nobody can take that away from you“,
{No, a Canadian court invented those ‘rights’ for you.}
he said.
“We’re rising up as Mi’kmaw people and we’re putting these fights to the forefront of our stance on our economic sovereignty and protecting our people and our rights.”
{You’re a racist, segregationist traitor.}
“As the raids were taking place, Sipekne’katik ‘First Nation’ set up checkpoints at the community’s entrances and exits.
“Chief Michelle Glasgow said in a Facebook post that at the time she posted, there were three raids taking place, but she was hearing there would be more.
“For those who want to do us harm, who want to do us harm by force in our community, you’re not welcome here.”
…
“In a statement issued Wednesday, Maw-lukutijik Saqmaq, the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs, said the raids constitute interference in Mi’kmaw jurisdiction.
“The provincial government giving directive to the RCMP, and then having the RCMP respond with raids, rather than discussions with community chiefs and councils, only further deteriorates our relationships with these Crown entities.”
{Not where law enforcement is concerned…}
“The statement said many Mi’kmaw communities have been developing their own cannabis laws after the province refused to work with them on regulation of cannabis {?}.
“While the province may see the result as ‘illegal’, that is not the viewpoint of Mi’kmaw leadership or communities {You STILL have to obey the law!!!}. The result is exactly what was predicted — a provincial system that ‘does not work’ in Mi’kmaw communities, leaving the Mi’kmaq to find their own solutions.”
“RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Carlie McCann said police have an obligation to enforce the federal and provincial acts controlling cannabis.
“Illegal storefronts are not regulated“,
McCann said in an interview.
“They sell cannabis from unknown and unregulated sources that may pose a health risk. The only legal way and the safest way to purchase cannabis is through an authorized seller.”
‘Economic genocide’
“Tuma Wilson, a lawyer with the ‘Micmac Rights Association’, called the raids part of a larger “economic genocide” being perpetrated against the Mi’kmaw people by the provincial government.
{‘Everything Is Genocide’
“Canada has been abusing the term “genocide” for quite some time. “Genocide” refers to the intentional destruction of an entire demographic of people. But among Western {pseudo-}‘academic’ and activist circles, “genocide” has now been stretched to apply to almost anything, from emissions policy to the ethnic ratios in prisons. Below, a not-at-all comprehensive list of just how much of Canadian life has been accused of being genocidal.”
https://hectorheisler.wordpress.com/2026/03/24/everything-is-genocide/ }
“Our own economic resources, our own self-grown economies are more important than ever,”
Wilson told the CBC’s “Information Morning Nova Scotia”.
“And of course the Houston government wants to undercut those to lock Mi’kmaq into the lowest socio-economic rung on the socio-economic ladder that they can.”
{What rhetorical victimhood nonsense. As if the Premier is out to get you. Stop the B.S…}
“Wilson said cannabis store raids have not just caused a monetary toll on store owners because of the tickets they’ve been issued, but also an emotional toll.
…
“The cannabis store raids took place just a week after Justice Minister Scott Armstrong tabled legislation that would strengthen enforcement of the province’s cannabis rules, increasing violation fines and permitting enforcement by peace officers and conservation officers as well as police.
“In December, the provincial government issued a directive that police prioritize efforts to stop illegal cannabis sales. Premier Tim Houston said later that he’d heard from law enforcement in the province that fentanyl had been found in cannabis sold in unauthorized stores. RCMP, however, said they were not aware of any such findings.
“The dispute has prompted the Sipekne’katik ‘First Nation’ to ban the premier, justice minister and minister of L’nu affairs from band lands.
“The cannabis store raids took place the same day as a large group of ‘First Nations’ protesters gathered in front of Province House for the “Shoulder to Shoulder” protest opposing budget cuts to services, grants, cultural organizations and programs.”
–‘You’re not welcome here,’ says Mi’kmaw leader as RCMP raid cannabis storefronts’,
CBC News, Mar. 04, 2026

From Feb., 2025:
“Cannabis, cash and firearms recently seized from 13 homes and sheds, including on Mi’kmaw reserves.”
“RCMP have laid dozens of charges against 21 people after raiding cannabis dispensaries they say have been operating illegally across Nova Scotia, including on four Mi’kmaw reserves, prompting a protest by advocates of ‘Indigenous’ {sic} treaty rights.
{NOTE: Canadian Aboriginals are ‘Indigenous’ to Mongolia and Siberia.}
“Supt. Jason Popik said the months-long investigation targeted 13 sheds and homes this month in southern and western Nova Scotia and was the result of concerns that organized crime was involved.
“Organized crime is much larger than [these dispensaries] and they’re exploiting those communities. They’re exploiting the treaties that are in place“,
Popik, the district policing officer for southwest Nova Scotia, told reporters Tuesday.
“The investigation, dubbed ‘Project Highfield’, netted more than 350 kilograms of cannabis products, unstamped tobacco, more than $16,000 in cash, 17 long guns and one handgun. The cannabis seized was worth about $1.25 million but could have been sold for more, said Popik.
“While RCMP held a news conference in New Minas to display some of the seized items, a group of dispensary operators and supporters gathered on the sidewalk outside, waving flags and holding signs that said “Support Sovereign Trade Rights“.

“In Nova Scotia, cannabis can only be sold legally through the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation, a Crown corporation.
“Cody Ward, a member of Sipekne’katik ‘First Nation’, said his ‘Green Wolf Treaty Truckhouse’ on Gaspereau Lake, N.S., was among those raided. He said he operates a number of cannabis dispensaries and none of them are on reserve land.
“In our eyes, if it’s legal and the Crown is going to sell it, then we have a right to sell it too, especially when it’s going from our own soil and ‘our own {claimed} territory’,”
Ward said in a recent interview.
“He said he relies on the Treaty of 1752 signed between a Mi’kmaw chief and the British governor of Nova Scotia that dealt with a number of issues, including trade.
“Ward accused the RCMP officers of needlessly “destroying the property” inside the dispensary during the raid.
“Matthew Currie, a member of Bear River ‘First Nation’ {a ‘nation’ of 402 people}, said his trading post and home were raided on Feb. 6. He said he had been in business for two months. Some of his property was destroyed during the raid as well, said Currie.
“Chris Googoo, a Millbrook ‘First Nation’ Band councillor and founder of the ‘Micmac Rights Association’, which has been highly critical of the raids, said there is a treaty right to sell cannabis through “truckhouses“, a term referenced in the 1752 Treaty.
“The bigger issue here is that we have a treaty right to have a truckhouse, and these truckhouses are constitutionally protected on and off reserve“,
Googoo said in a recent interview.
{And truckhouses sold pot?}
…
“Popik said there are different perspectives on whether treaty rights are being violated, and it’s up to the courts to handle that question. Officers consulted with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada before launching the investigation, he added.
“We wanted to make sure we had a good understanding of the law, understanding of the treaties, and that we were rightfully placed within our investigation so it could go to prosecution“,
Popik said.
“Popik said cannabis crimes outweigh other drug crimes, including the sale and use of opiates and other narcotics, in most of the communities within his area of responsibility. People in the areas where the dispensaries are located don’t like the operations, he said.
“They have issues with people coming from off the reserve to go to these dispensaries, he said, and there are concerns about the weapons involved and the quality of the products being sold.
…
“Googoo said the ‘Micmac Rights Association’ is implementing health and safety standards for cannabis sold by members of the group. All the products were tested and they encourage ‘nation’-to-‘nation’ trading, he said.
“We as ‘Indigenous’ people have a right to economy and to partake in … an equal economy“,
Googoo said.
{It’s not “equal” if you can just defy the law.}
“Court appearances are expected to begin in June for the people charged in connection with the seizures in Kings, Lunenburg, Annapolis and Queens counties. RCMP said the 52 charges laid include unauthorized sale of cannabis and careless use of a firearm.
“RCMP said in a news release the investigation is ongoing and more arrests and charges are expected.”

“Our nation of Canada is now only one of several “nations” within our borders, with the other ‘nations’ also receiving special Constitutional powers. This has created a Constitutional rights hierarchy, rather than equal rights for all Canadians. It began, of course, with the Quebecois “nation” and has spread like a virus, with new would-be aboriginal “nations” springing up in all corners of our land. Now, it’s even taboo in some circles to refer to Canada as “One Nation”…”
