Here’s where ‘Reconciliation’ becomes just another word for cultural bullying. At some point, there has to be a limit to aboriginal ‘sensitivities’. After all, ‘tolerance’ — like ‘reconciliation’ — is a TWO-way street:
“Cardston is a small Mormon town in southwest Alberta and right across the street is the Kainai ‘Nation’ {a ‘nation’ of 12,258 people}, or Blood Tribe. The people of the Blood Tribe frequent Cardston to shop or see a doctor, but they say doing those things includes experiencing racism…
“An example was a ‘Peter Pan’ play put on by the local theatre company.
“Photos of actors wearing ‘indigenous’ “costumes” and face paint made its way around social media.

“Our people no longer accept the images that have been portrayed of us in movies and plays,” said Tailfeathers… {They’re not images of ‘you’ — ‘Peter Pan’ is fantasy…}
“Blood Tribe members contacted the theatre company and asked for the play to be cancelled.
“Instead, the owner of ‘Carriage House Theatre’ wrote an {abject} apology.
“The Carriage House Theatre would like the ‘First Nations’ people to understand that there was no intent to offend in our production of ‘Peter Pan’. But saying that, in our ignorance we have offended,” the statement said.

“We recognize in this situation, we too have much to learn and feel sorry for all that has transpired due to our lack of ‘cultural awareness’.”
“The theatre removed the costumes but for the people of Blood Tribe, they would have liked to see the play cancelled.
“They do hope it opens the door to reconciliation.”

COMMENT: “I happen to like the story ‘Peter Pan’; it just seems I have to give up my culture in order for others to feel better about theirs. There is almost a demand for everyone to like/respect/feel badly for ‘First Nations’ people. I am not allowed to have a culture. I am the enemy since I am white. Now islands are being renamed, streets are being renamed, etc. Personally, I don’t think it’s fair.”

Of course, the remnants of ‘Idle No More’, and the Leftist ‘Council of Canadians’, exacerbate the situation:
“Members of the Blood Tribe held a ‘unity rally’ on Saturday to raise awareness over the issue of ‘cultural misappropriation’ {Something aboriginals NEVER do, Lol…} after a photo from a recent production of “Peter Pan” was posted online by the ‘Carriage House Theatre’ in Cardston.
“The event took place Saturday afternoon in the ‘Moccasin Flats Plaza’ in the community of Moses Lake, and was organized by ‘Communities in Unity’, members of ‘The Council of Canadians’ (Blood Tribe Chapter) and ‘Idle No More Blood Tribe’…
“The Carriage House Theatre presented “Peter Pan”, which ran from Feb. 9-18. When a photo was posted showing white actors dressed in stereotypical costumes as members of the ‘indigenous’ ‘Henny Penny Tribe’ that live in ‘Neverland’, members of the Blood Tribe ‘took issue’ with the image.

“Theatre owner Alonna Leavitt issued an apology… The apology also stated efforts had been made to cast ‘FN’ actors in those roles, but there had been no response from the BT community.
“It was decided that the show would be changed and that the ‘Henny Penny Tribe’ would be written out of the story.
“Peter Pan” was written just after the turn of the 20th Century, making it more than 110 years old…
“Another rally is being planned for Cardston on March 21, which is the ‘International Day for the Elimination of {White-only} Racism’…”
