‘Aboriginal Activist Appointed Minister of ‘Indigenous’ Services Canada’

This Aboriginal activist conducted her first CBC interview in Cree – a language even most Cree don’t understand – a deliberately disrespectful beginning to her new position as a divisive force…

“For the first time, an ‘Indigenous’ {sic, ‘Aboriginal’} person will head the department charged with providing services for ‘First Nations’ {Indians}, Inuit and Métis in Canada.

“Rookie MP {and already a Cabinet Minister!} Mandy Gull-Masty (Abitibi-Baie-James-Nunavik-Eeyou) was named Minister of ‘Indigenous’ Services Canada (‘I’SC) by Prime Minister Mark Carney during the swearing-in ceremony at Rideau Hall Tuesday.

Gull-Masty was the head of the Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee) prior to running for a seat in the House of Commons.

“She won the riding by more than 2,000 votes. Gull-Masty succeeds Patty Hajdu, who is now the Minister of Jobs and Families and Minister responsible for Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario. That agency will lead work with Ontario and ‘First Nations’ on developing the ‘Ring of Fire’.

{Which Aboriginals have prevented for years now…}

“Gull-Masty is one of three ‘Indigenous’ MPs named to Carney’s cabinet. Another first time MP {!}, Rebecca Chartrand (Churchill–Keewatinook Aski), was named to two posts – minister of Arctic Affairs and Minister responsible for Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency.

“The third is ‘Métis’ MP Buckley Belanger (Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River), who was named the Secretary of State for rural development.

“N.W.T. MP Rebecca Alty becomes the minister of Crown-‘Indigenous’ Relations.

As ‘First Nations’ {Indian} leaders gather on Parliament Hill to protest Ottawa’s controversial major projects legislation, the federal minister for ‘Indigenous’ services says she has asked Prime Minister Mark Carney to screen new federal bills for their impacts on ‘Indigenous’ communities.

{That’s supposed to be done for ALL Canadian communities!}

“‘Indigenous’ Services Minister Mandy Gull-Masty says other ministries — including labour, justice, industry and natural resources — touch on ‘Indigenous’ {Race} ‘rights’ in different ways and the legislation they introduce should be analyzed through an ‘Indigenous’ lens {As defined by whom? And isn’t saying that a group of people have a common ‘lens’ based on their Race, a racist stereotype??}.

“Her comments come as ‘First Nations’ prepare to protest ‘C-5’, legislation that would allow the federal government to override certain laws — including the ‘Indian Act’ and the ‘Species at Risk Act’ — to get major projects approved.

“‘First Nations’ leaders say ‘C-5’ could trample on their rights and accuse Carney’s government of failing to consult with them.

{The only land that could be affected by ‘C-5’ are reserve lands – and the reserves would receive any of the financial benefits of that, as is specified in Treaties.}

The government is pushing to pass the legislation by the end of the week through a condensed committee process that will leave parliamentarians with less time to study the bill. ‘Indigenous’ leaders warned the government may find itself in court{What else is new?} if their {Race} rights are not respected and said widespread blockades and protests are not off the table.

“Asked whether the federal government could have avoided conflict if it had undertaken an ‘Indigenous’-based analysis of ‘C-5’ before it was introduced, Gull-Masty said she “would hope so”.

I often ask myself when these kinds of things happen, ‘Where was the point that communication could have been enhanced on both sides’?

she said.

{Why should Aboriginals get special consideration? How many other Canadians were consulted??}

I hear what’s going on in the community. I hear all kinds of responses. But getting to the table and clarifying what it is you expect, or what you understand this Bill to be, or what your concerns are, that’s where the real problem-solving is.”

“Gull-Masty said that as a former Grand Chief, she knows economic participation is not the bottom line for ‘Indigenous’ communities worried about the impacts of development on their culture and the environment.

“She said Carney is “super open{Why use bimbo Valley Girl language?} to the idea of reviewing bills through an ‘Indigenous’ {Racial} lens and is willing to engage new methods brought forward by cabinet’s {Segregated} ‘Indigenous caucus’.

“The federal government already has a duty to consult with ‘Indigenous Peoples’ {Aboriginals} when legislation could affect their lands or rights.

“The ‘United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples’, which Canada {foolishly} adopted, also requires free, prior and informed consent — though the federal government says that does not amount to an Indigenous “veto” on projects {No, that’s what the Supreme Court of Canada has ruled!}.

“Gull-Masty’s pitch for Indigenous analysis of new legislation would be based on Ottawa’s {discriminatory}gender-based analysis plus” — a 30-year-old mechanism which the government says has become an integrated component of its decision-making process {And is at least partly responsible for the deterioration of the Canadian public service}.”

“Mandy Gull-Masty says even though she swore an oath to King Charles when she took on her new role as federal ‘Indigenous’ Services minister, “I work for the people {Which “people”?}.

“The MP and former Grand Chief of ‘Eeyou Istchee’ was appointed to Prime Minister Mark Carney’s cabinet this week. She is the first ‘Indigenous’ cabinet minister to hold the portfolio responsible for providing services for ‘First Nations’ {Indians}, Inuit and Métis.

“Gull-Masty said she understands that the role she’s taking on is a challenging job.

Now I will work for all ‘Indigenous’ people across Canada {!?! Now we know which ‘people’ you meant…}. It’s very important but very difficult work, I know that already“,

she said, speaking {disrespectfully} to CBC News in Cree {While understanding that most Canadians – even most Cree – won’t have a clue what she is talking about. Someone needs to point out that Canada has TWO Official Languages…and Cree isn’t one of them!}.

[When I was first elected as ‘Eeyou Istchee’ Grand Chief], I told my family that they were in service to the Cree Nation“,

she recalled.

{What Cree ‘Nation’? There is not – nor has there ever been – such a thing…}

“They’ve had a similar conversation about her new role, she said.

We talked about it, I asked them about it, and told them, ‘you will be in service to Canada too, not only me — we are in this together’,”

said Gull-Masty.

“Gull-Masty feels emotional about being entrusted with this new role. She said she never thought she would work her way up into federal politics.

“She says her experience as the former Grand Chief of ‘Eeyou Istchee’ gives her the confidence to embrace this new job with the same dedication.

It’s important to me to remember where I come from and bring that same work ethic no matter where I go.”

“Gull-Masty said she’s received congratulatory messages from the Assembly of ‘First Nations’, ‘Jordan’s Principle’, the grand council of the Cree, as well as community members from across ‘Eeyou Istchee’.

“Norman A. Wapachee, who’s now the Grand Chief of ‘Eeyou Istchee’, emphasizes the importance of ‘Indigenous’ representation at the federal level for fostering better relationships among leaders in all levels of government. Wapachee took over as grand chief last month following Gull-Masty’s resignation. He is a former colleague of Gull-Masty, but also a close friend.

Mandy’s appointment came at a very good time. It’s a critical time for the Cree ‘Nation’ because our agreements with Canada expire in 2028, and our negotiations will resume in 2026“,

said Wapachee.

“Wapachee also says that Gull-Masty has strong ‘cultural competence’, enabling her to connect with northern communities in Western Canada. Her ‘visionary leadership’ allows her to pursue long-term goals while collaborating effectively, according to Wapachee.

The Cree ‘Nation’ government stands by her {Of course you do – She’s there to favour you}. We provide our full support…

said Wapachee.”

{There is an interview with her at the CBC link below – in Cree, of course…}

She is a ‘journalist’ and part of CBC’s {Segregated} ‘Indigenous’ Pathways first cohort. She currently resides in Kanien’kehá:ka territory of Tiohtià:ke, also known as Montreal {This is yet another example of the systemic racism and propaganda we have come to expect from the grossly-offensive CBC. Their mandate is Canadian unity but they are the single most divisive force in Canada!}.

MP Mandy Gull-Masty this week became the first ‘Indigenous’ cabinet minister responsible for ‘Indigenous’ Services Canada. (CBC – Radio-Canada)

Mandy Gull-Masty has just made history as the first ‘Indigenous’ person to take on the role of Canada’s minister of ‘Indigenous’ Services. She now steps into a position that directly shapes how programs and support are delivered to ‘First Nations’ {Indians}, Inuit and Métis people across the country.

“A member of the Cree ‘Nation’ from Waswanipi in northern Quebec, and a former Grand Chief of ‘Eeyou Istchee’, Gull-Masty’s appointment is a milestone for ‘Indigenous’ representation at the highest levels of federal government.

“She takes on a portfolio fraught with deep challenges. Her ministry is responsible for matters like reforming the child welfare system, closing the infrastructure gap and ensuring clean drinking water and equitable services for ‘Indigenous’ communities — issues that have long been points of contention between Indigenous leaders and the federal government.

The expectation is very high of myself to ensure that I am being a role model and bringing ‘Indigenous’ representation and an ‘Indigenous’ voice to this space and cabinet”,

said Gull-Masty.

********************

“In an exclusive interview with Canada’s National Observer, Gull-Masty describes how her experience as a recipient of ‘Indigenous’ Services Canada (ISC) programs shapes her decision-making; how ‘Indigenous’ knowledge informs her climate priorities; the immense pressure and historical significance of her role, and her approach to incorporating ‘Indigenous’ perspectives into federal policy.

{So, “‘Indigenous’ perspectives” are needed? Is this not a gross racist stereotype?

P.S. DNA shows that Canadian Aboriginals are ‘Indigenous’ to Siberia & Mongolia…}

“As the first ‘Indigenous’ minister of ‘Indigenous’ services, you carry many hopes and pressures — from ‘Indigenous’ communities, government and the public. What is the hardest part of holding that responsibility every day?”

That first meeting [with the ‘Indigenous’ leader] went incredibly well, because we shared a commonality: a history of family who went to residential school, that we came from communities; our favorite dish our ‘kookums’ made us when we went hunting. It was the first time I got to sit with an ‘Indigenous’ leader, share that, receive feedback … to feel that connection of who we are and our identity {What about your identity as Canadians?}. Really, I signalled to them that there is a change that is going to come from this department — but it is also one that is going to be very inclusive of [them].”

“As someone with some leadership experience in environmental work, what climate issue feels urgent to you? How do you plan to advance it in a system that moves slowly?”

I think that for me, one of the big priorities that spans across Canada is really incorporating ‘Indigenous knowledge’ and the relationship with the territory. They are, what do you call that, the canary in the coal mine? They go there daily, understand when water has shifted, when Earth is different, when the forest is acting differently.

That’s critical information, not just from one person camping for a weekend, but based on millennia of family, lineage and information being transferred. I think that has a lot of value and should not only complement Western science, but be equated as equally important when doing planning and research.”

The Myth of Aboriginal Environmental Stewardship:

Nothing is so pernicious as the profoundly-racist notion that somehow ‘indigenous peoples’ are genetically endowed with a special relationship, a spiritual kinship, with nature that makes them superior caretakers of the land … Why is so much weight afforded to what is essentially raw, localized experience? If you strip away its spiritual accoutrements, you’re left with little more than the same wisdom that allows a fisherman to gauge impending weather, or derive crude conclusions on the state of fish stocks… Surely, this is common sense. A person of any race or background can, at least in theory, be equally capable of protecting or destroying the environment.”

A Racism Of Intelligence (Science and ‘Traditional Knowledge’) {April 17, 2018}:

Quebec deputy minister Patrick Beauchesne wrote that Ottawa’s intention to systematically place ‘indigenous’ knowledge on equal footing with scientific data

could prove problematic in cases where ‘indigenous’ knowledge and science are found to be in contradiction”.

He said criteria should be established to evaluate the accuracy of the ‘traditional knowledge’…{Sensible fellow. So few of them left…} …When the letter recently became public, it provoked an outraged reaction from Quebec ‘indigenous’ leaders, an apology from two Quebec cabinet ministers and, this week, an accusation of racism from a University of Ottawa law professor

Getting Nuttier…’ (Bill C-69) {October 15, 2018}:

During a technical briefing held in Ottawa on Bill C-69, senior government officials said ‘indigenous’ {aboriginal} knowledge will be treated with weight equal to other information {?!?} during the assessment of a project… Ottawa is also pledging to increase financial support for ‘indigenous’ communities to engage in the process {Of course}…”

Mother Earth?:

We are constantly lectured about how ‘white man’ needs to understand our relationship with ‘Mother Earth’, the way that aboriginals ‘inherently’ do. It will therefore come as a surprise to many that ‘Mother Earth’ as a concept in Canadian culture is European in origin and has virtually no history or connection with aboriginal culture or belief – and that’s according to aboriginal elders and scholars.”
